Hey gang! I'm back.. at least for now ;)
Let me give a brief re-cap of the last few months... For starters, I got back into reading books. To name just a few that I finished, I read Ayn Rand's "The Fountainhead" and "Atlas Shrugged", Malcolm Gladwell's "Blink", and this book about a 52 year old man that swam the entire Amazon.. he would swim up to 75 miles a day for 66 straight days in the most dangerous waters on the planet. The same guy holds a record for the longest non-stop swim at 84 hours 10 minutes... What does Michael Phelps have on that? The guy is in
ridiculous shape too..
I pretty much stopped skateboarding (for now).. but have picked up surfing, rock climbing, ultimate frisbee, volleyball, long boarding, swimming, hiking, and weekly bike adventures through DC. I plan to start skating a lot after summer, maybe even film again.
I've met hundreds (literally) of different people in the last few months. Its been pretty cool. I have learned that my productivity in life goes through the roof when I deny myself the internet and go outside more. I've never owned a computer myself, but between the one I use at work, and the one my landlord's have so graciously provided me, I find myself on the net quite often. The internet is a bottomless well of information to dive into, and I usually occupy my time online learning about something interesting to me, or reading the latest health/fitness/science article. And yeah...I also check Facebook a bunch. But like I was sayin, my life gets much cooler when I get rid of the net and just go out and do things and meet people. I have much more fun, and end up with 10X more stories.
So let me share just one with you that went down sometime during the last several months. One day I felt like going on a short bike ride through DC, and planned to stop by the smaller reflecting pool in front of the US Capital building to do some reading (note: currently this is my favorite reading spot in DC).
I love this spot because it's a low traffic area and the water provides me with a very serene feeling while I read. Anyways on this particular day I showed up and to my dismay the pool was drained... I was very bummed, and couldn't figure out why it would be drained during the summertime. So I sat down to think my life over when I noticed a small family of four picking up what appeared to be pennies. I soon realized this family was picking up more than just 1 cent pieces, but also 5 cent, 10 cent, 25 cent, 50 cent, and even 1 dollar pieces of US currency which I'm guessing thousands of tourists had been depositing into the great reflecting pool for quite sometime. So naturally, 30 minutes later my pockets were filled with $60 doll-hairs worth of change. I even met this cute family from Bali that decided to help me in my quest for greed and were bringing me all of "the silver" they could find.
Now I know some of you are probably thinking...isn't that illegal? or..Don't you feel bad stealing people's wishes? Well doggies...Not that I think I need to, but let me provide you with my rationale.. I have read that it is illegal to throw change into the pool, but I have never read that it is illegal to take it out... So in that sense, I think what I did may have even been a public service. As for the wishes...please, we don't live in fantasy land... One thing that did make me feel awkward though, as I rode my bike back to my car, I passed a lot of homeless people, they didn't have the slightest clue that "the jackpot" was right around the corner.
Thanks doggies!
Oh yeah.. if you're curious..this is what I bought with my
$60 doll-hairsPS I've never watched the show "Chuck", but I am in love with this
music video somebody made featuring Kenna's "Baptized in Black Light"...whoever that actress is, she is gorgeous. You guys should check out this song..its nice!
